Petrochemical expansion

by Mark Rowe

For many years the TPAO, Turkish Petroleum Corporation, has used recording devices by Dallmeier. When the system was expanded, the petrochemical company again chose recording servers by the German CCTV manfuacturers.

Dallmeier recorders have been in use in the headquarters in Ankara for years, for covering entrances and exits, the floors of the building and the lifts. But the system was in need of modernisation and expansion. “What we wanted were high-quality recording devices,” says Tahir Can, Security Manager of TPAO. “We have been working with Dallmeier recorders for many years and have never had any problems.”

That is why, when the time came for new devices, the appliance DMS 2400 was selected, a server hardware with Multi-Core CPU and 2x 3.5-inch HDDs. The operating system of the 3HU high appliance is on flash memory for system stability. Due to the “EasyChange“ function, hard disk drives can be changed from the front of the device in case of an HDD failure. The SMAVIA Recording Server Software is already preloaded and supports standard resolutions as well as Full-HD (up to 1080p) and up to 8 megapixels.

The local partner Ni-Ti Elektronik Güvenlik Sistemleri were contracted to install the system. Tahir Can says: “The technical service provided by Ni-Ti Elektronik has always been excellent and we have always kept in touch. That is why we wanted to work together with Dallmeier and Ni-Ti again when we upgraded our video system.”

Viewing client

The evaluation of live and recorded images is done with the SMAVIA Viewing Client, a VideoIP client software for the viewing of SMAVIA Recording Server recordings via Ethernet. One feature is the SmartFinder, for the intelligent search of movements within any given area of an image. Thus, it allows for a goal-oriented evaluation of recorded video streams. As for searching for images with captured motion, an operator uses the mouse to drag a rectangle within the image, thereby marking the relevant area. Even with respect to extended time intervals, SmartFinder is able to find and list the sequences with captured motion within seconds it is claimed. The initial results may be immediately viewed and examined, even while the system is still searching.

Fit for HD
With the new SMAVIA appliances TPAO is also fit for high-definition. Ilker Ipek (CEO) and Onur Bursali (Foreign Trade Specialist) at Ni-Ti Elektronik adds: “The existing analogue cameras, which were also re-integrated into the new system, can now be gradually replaced with HD network cameras. This migration concept is ideal for TPAO.“

About the user

Established in 1954, today the TPAO has a staff of over 1,600 employees in Ankara alone and more than 4,700 around Turkey. They explore oil and natural gas reserves, drill, store natural gas and trade in oil, including distribution and transportation.
