Network IR domes

by Mark Rowe

Hikvision recently announced its new Network IR Speed Domes; the DS-2DF7286 2MP dome, and the DS-2DF7276 offering 1.3MP resolution. Both cameras feature 30x optical zoom.

That optical zoom can help users observe close-up detail of distant objects. This can be particularly beneficial where tracking and zooming are required as at airports, highways, stadiums, and scenic sites). Engineered with a smart tracking function, both domes can detect any progressively moving object and follow it within the camera’s area of coverage without fault. Facial detection is further supported to ensure that an individual’s face is present in the picture during tracking. A smart de-fog feature can help improve the clarity of images captured in poor weather, such as rain or fog; and smart IR technology is added to address the problem of over-exposure of IR LEDs at the centre of images. Another interesting feature is ROI (region of interest) encoding. This allows capture high resolution images of key information such as number plates and facial detection, and decreases non-ROI image quality to save on overall bandwidth.

Using CMOS, the DS-2DF7286 and DS-2DF7276 provide imaging with up-to 1920×1080 and 1280×960 resolution apiece. With true day-night capability, the two speed domes can detect at distances of up to 120m, even in total darkness it is claimed. Finally, 3D DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) helps to eliminate image noise in low light, without creating ghosting and blurring; while Digital Wide Dynamic Range (DWDR) is supported to make these cameras suitable the makers say for locations where there may be a strong contrast in lighting.
