H.264 megapixel series

by Mark Rowe

Arecont Vision, the US maker of IP-based megapixel cameras, has added to its MegaBall all-in-one indoor day-night H.264 megapixel camera series.

The second generation MegaBall G2 cameras now come with STELLAR (Spatio TEmporal Low Light ARchitecture) and Smart IR technologies for better low light performance. The cameras also include CorridorView for coverage in hallways and corridors, the ability to scale images to different resolutions, optional on-board SDMC storage up to 32GB via an SDHC card slot, and a new housing style. These G2 cameras are available with 1.2MP, 1080p, 1080p WDR, 3MP, 3MP WDR, and 5MP resolutions.

Brad Donaldson, Director of Product Management, Arecont Vision, said: “Innovative features like our STELLAR and Smart IR technologies that dramatically improve low light performance have now been added to MegaBall G2 to further increase their exceptional performance, efficiency and versatility. With all of the new features, the MegaBall series continues to be an outstanding surveillance camera for a wide range of indoor applications.”

According to the company, STELLAR expands low-light performance by reducing motion blur and noise, enhancing contrast, and enabling colour imaging in near complete darkness, it’s claimed. The Smart IR means that images always remain clear by adjusting the angle and intensity of the beam to optimise the image. And CorridorView allows the G2’s image to be rotated 90 degrees for more coverage of hallways and corridors. It also offers image scaling to different resolutions to address system bandwidth and storage requirements.

The MegaBall G2 cameras also include a remote focus/zoom p-iris lens for set-up; and an optional Panamorph lens for 180 degree and 360 degree viewing on 5MP models.

The makers add that the MegaBall G2 features Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) up to 100dB at full resolution on 1080p and 3MP models, an integrated cable management structure, and three-axis adjustment capability to simplify installation. The cameras are available in a dome configuration for surface or flush mounting, and a new bell mount configuration featuring Smart IR Technology.

And the company has brought out the AV-IP Utility, designed to simplify set up and update process for the firm’s megapixel cameras.

“We are always looking for ways to improve the setup and configuration experience for our customer when they are working with our cameras,” stated Brad Donaldson, Director, Product Management, Arecont Vision®. “With the release of our new AV-IP Utility, we have made significant steps in both the ease of installation and in ongoing camera management.”

Features of the AV-IP Utility application include:

– Enhanced user interface
– Multiple discovery options, including broadcast and multicast
– Mass update camera firmware and/or hardware files
– Mass update camera settings
– Import and/or export camera settings using .csv file

The Arecont Vision IP Utility is free and is available for customer download from the Support page on the Arecont Vision website.
