Donation for DIY SOS

by Mark Rowe

Hikvision UK & Ireland has donated video intercom and CCTV equipment to a facility for the homeless youth of Blackburn, as featured on a special Children In Need edition of the BBC TV series ‘DIY SOS: The Big Build’. The equipment was used as part of an accommodation centre run by the Blackburn charity Nightsafe, which helps alleviate the plight of homeless young people in the town.

Hikvision partner Black Box Fire & Security Solutions has provided its installation labour free to the project. Black Box has a 40-year history of providing fire and security solutions to commercial, residential and public sector clients.

‘DIY SOS: The Big Build’ is the BBC’s flagship home renovation show. Its Children In Need episode covered St Silas Parish Hall on Preston New Road in the town. The St Silas centre has been leased to Nightsafe, a charity established by residents in 1990 to meet the needs of homeless young people aged 16 to 24. The centre offers immediate access for young people who have nowhere else to go while alternatives are found for them, and they are linked into the appropriate supporting networks and services.

Justin Hollis, Marketing Director at Hikvision UK & Ireland, said the company was proud to be able to support the project. “When Black Box approached us suggesting that we might be able to donate our video intercom, CCTV products, to be installed by Black Box’s engineers, we were on board immediately. We’re extremely pleased to be able to assist in any way with a project like this which can make a real difference in the lives of young people.”

David Barnes, Managing Director of Black Box Fire & Security Solutions, said: “The Hikvision kit was perfect for this project and site in particular. It provides excellent reliability, is of high quality and is good for high traffic monitoring. We were delighted to be supported by Hikvision with the donation of this kit for installation on the BBC Children in Need Nightsafe project.”
