Sony Europe’s Image Sensing Solutions has begun shipping its range of 5.1 MP, 154fps Camera Link V2.0 modules based on its global-shutter CMOS technology – XCL-SG510.
The camera series, which has been shortlisted for Elektronik’s Product of the Year Awards, is suited the makers say to a range of sectors to capture high-speed moving objects in low (0.5 lx), imperfect or changing lighting including intelligent transport (ITS), factory automation, food and drink inspection and pharmaceutical applications.
The black/white and colour modules make use of the large bandwidth available through Camera Link to provide high frame rates and on-camera functions including wide dynamic range, frame accumulation, shading and error correction, single and multi ROI (region of interest) imaging and area gain / exposure.
These functions can be hardware and software triggered, using edge detection, pulse width detection, bulk trigger and sequential trigger modes.
The XCL-SG510 module uses the Sony 2/3-type Exmor CMOS sensor with Pregius technology. The module been created by Sony engineers to extract the industry’s best image from this sensor, the firm says.
The XCL-SG510 was previewed at Vision 2016 and joins the XCL-CG510 5.1 MP GigE camera in its range of GS CMOS technologies.
Arnaud Destruels, European Marketing Manager, Sony Image Sensing Solutions , said: “This is one of our most advanced modules and delivers unrivalled image quality from the sensor. The camera has been developed with the sole intention of extracting the full capabilities of this Sony sensor and we’re delighted with the results.”
Technical specifications
The series’ b/w module has a minimum illumination of just 0.5 lx, the colour module requires just 12 lx and comes with a one-push white balance. Both have a sensitivity of F5.6, a gain of 0 to +18 dB, a shutter speed of 60 s to 1/100,000 s.
