Adaptive Infrared

by Mark Rowe

Lighting can inhibit clear monitoring of buildings and at times ineffective in crime prevention efforts. With CCTV users watching their budgets closely, the question becomes: how do you cost-effectively protect areas after the sun goes down?

The Canadian manufacturer Avigilon has introduced Adaptive Infrared technology on indoor and outdoor H.264 HD dome cameras . This patent-pending Adaptive IR technology is an approach to IR illumination as it combines zoom adaptive and content adaptive technology to provide effective illumination. Essentially the firm says cameras are smart enough to know what needs to be lighted by infrared and by how much.

Rick Ramsay, senior product manager at Avigilon, said: “At Avigilon, we’re constantly looking at ways to improve the image quality of video surveillance. With the adaptive IR technology we’re building intelligence into our products so our customers get the same image quality we’re known for, but in complete darkness.”
