4G solar kit

by Mark Rowe

Hikvision has launched a new 4G Solar Panel Kit for stand-alone security of remote assets in hard to reach places. The camera runs on solar power.

The kit (DS-2XS6A25G0-I/CH20S40) includes a 4G camera, a solar panel, a battery, and a bracket. This offers connected security to sites such as farms, for animal and forest observation, or temporary monitoring of construction sites. Having no power or network is no longer a problem, as the kit provides power to the camera through the panel and connects through 4G. It sends data to a communication station and then on to a security monitoring centre, where it can be managed using HikCentral Professional software or the Hik-Connect app. This means monitoring and management, such as viewing footage live, can be done remotely over the 4G network.

The product is light enough for install by one person with a pole mount. The IP67 rating provides protection against most adverse weather, and it also survives against strong winds often experienced in remote areas, the manufacturer adds. The kit detects power levels and automatically adjusts to power-saving mode when power is low. This means it can work continuously for up to seven days in cloudy and rainy weather when fully charged.

Features include:

– 40 watt solar panel
– 20 Ah, built-in rechargeable battery
– 2 MP images at 25fps (frames per second)
– the company’s DarkFighter product for low-light imaging
– 2.8 / 4 / 8 mm lens options
– 30 m infra-red lighting distance
– 4G (LTE-TDD/LTE-FDD/TD-SCDMA/EVDO) module.

Gary Harmer, Hikvision UK and Ireland Sales Director says: “Supporting remote operations like farms and temporary construction sites has always been a challenge. Now, with this innovative combination of solar and 4G technologies we can provide a camera that can work ‘off grid’, meaning installers can provide a great service to customers wherever they are.”
