Panasonic, Genetec at Essen

by Mark Rowe

Using deep learning, Panasonic’s FacePRO integration with Genetec’s security management software helps security users create watch lists to match thousands of faces, even from challenging angles, partially hidden, and from aged photo captures, the firms say.

Panasonic will show its FacePRO on the Genetec stand (Hall 5, Booth #G30) at Security Essen 2018, the German trade fair. As a technology partner in the Genetec ecosystem, Panasonic will demonstrate the benefits of facial recognition with Genetec Security Center (pictured; Panasonic at IFSEC in June).

Panasonic says FacePRO can identify faces that are difficult to recognise within common video surveillance. These situations include reading faces at an angle of up to 45 degrees to the left or right or 30 degrees up or down, with a 90 per cent accuracy rate, it is claimed, when detecting faces partially hidden by sunglasses or face masks.

With the Security Center, security users can work with FacePRO to detect real time face matching with up to 30,000 faces on a watch-list database. End-users can select a face from past recordings to start a face-list search against all related video footage with playback. With these search variables combined, businesses can the product developers say shorten the time and workflow spent to find related videos that would otherwise have to be completed manually, taking hours, days, or even weeks.

Applications include VIP applications (for retail and hotel resorts) and registered people (corporate, education and hospitals).

Hiroshi (Huey) Sekiguchi, Head of global marketing for security business at Panasonic, described FacePRO as offering a deep solutions perspective, beyond a classical integration with Security Center. Sekiguchi said: “With several FacePRO projects already deployed with Security Center, we look forward to demonstrating how our facial recognition engine can provide joint value-add solutions to the market.”

And Georges Tannous, Director of Strategic Alliances at Genetec said: “Genetec and Panasonic share the same vision of providing world-class security solutions that meet today’s growing requirements for data-intensive analytics—especially face recognition. We are excited to feature demonstrations of Panasonic FacePRO, integrated with Security Center, on the Genetec stand at Security Essen.”
