Videx Security has introduced the BIOC-SW external swipe fingerprint reader as a new addition to the ‘Mini Metal’ family of access control readers which already includes a fingerprint reader for internal use, proximity reader, keypad and touch to exit device. Using capacitive swipe biometric fingerprint technology, a user simply swipes their finger down the BIOC-SW reader and this verifies if the fingerprint is a match. It outputs the information to the access controller to decide if access should be granted or denied.
Designed for external use, it has a capacity for up to 9500 fingerprints with typical identification taking less than one second it is claimed. Both visual and audible indication of acceptance or denial of access is included in the form of an internal beeper and halo style tri-colour illumination.
The surface mount BIOC-SW has a moulded aluminium housing and is rated to IP65 against water and dust ingress. It measures a compact 91mm x 51mm x 25mm and is available in six colours: silver (standard), white, red, blue, green and charcoal.
The BIOC-SW external swipe fingerprint reader has an industry standard Wiegand output enabling it to be used with the Videx Portal Plus access control system as well as third party systems. A Bio Manager software package is available when used on third party systems to assist in adding, editing and deleting users. An RS485 bus links all readers and is used for updating the memory of the reader with all current data while a desk reader is also available for enrolment.
A one metre cable is supplied which can be extended up to 50m back to a controller, power supply is 12Vdc with a maximum power consumption of 70mA and the operating temperature range of the device is from -20°C to +50°C.
