NSI Head of Standards

by Mark Rowe

The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) has appointed Robert Conlon as Head of Standards. The certification body for the security installation, guarding and fire sectors says this newly-created position shows its commitment to enhancing its technical know-how. Conlon will oversee the inspectorate’s own codes of practice, interpreting documents for the practical implementation of management, security and fire safety standards. Besides, he’ll be identifying new approval schemes aligned to the trends and technologies being adopted by the security and fire safety market.

Conlon joins from the healthcare sector where he has held senior quality improvement and management roles, as well as undertaking compliance auditing. He brings over 30 years’ experience in applying and managing quality management and security services systems, schemes and standards.

Conlon, pictured, said: “Having been involved with quality improvement and auditing throughout my career I am very much looking forward to applying my knowledge for the benefit of the wider security sector which is experiencing significant changes.”

And NSI Chief Executive, Richard Jenkins said: “Robert joins NSI 20 years to the month that NSI gained its independence. It’s a key time for the industry, with heightened awareness of the significance of life safety risk assessments, the integration of new technologies in remote monitoring of home security systems, the ever widening use of CCTV, the impact of GDPR, the SIA’s review of its Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) and close cooperation with the police, all serve to demonstrate the importance of the highest standards of service and technical competence.

“The changing focus of quality management standards to risk-based thinking increases the opportunity for companies to become Gold approved using NSI’s unique tools to apply standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 to the security and fire safety market.”
