Life safety CPD

by Mark Rowe

Manufacturer of life safety products Hochiki Europe has announced its latest Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course, Hybrid Wireless Fire Detection – The Standards and Technologies.

Designed for M&E contractors and consultants, architects and end users, the course provides an overview of what is required when specifying, installing and maintaining hybrid wireless fire detection systems. It’s including an overview of relevant sections from BS 5839 Part 1 and EN 54 Part 25 standards, a guide to when to use hybrid wireless, the technology behind the system and examples of appropriate applications.

The use of hybrid wireless based fire detection according to the firm has grown massively in recent years and has proven particularly useful within temporary locations and where minimum disturbance to the fabric of a building is important.

Hochiki Europe in 2011 introduced its FIREwave solution. Firewave is EN54 compliant and can be used as an extension to a compatible hardwired system, such as Hochiki’s Enhanced Systems Protocol (ESP) intelligent system.

Hybrid Wireless Fire Detection – The Standards & Technologies – is part of Hochiki Europe’s CPD training portfolio. The other three courses are Emergency Lighting Standards and Design Considerations; False Alarm Reduction in Detection Systems; and Understanding the Selection, Spacing and Siting of Detectors. Each course has been externally reviewed and approved by the Construction CPD Certification Service. They can be held at a customer’s premises and last for about one hour each and contribute one CPD hour to the attendees’ CPD quota.

Paul Adams, Hochiki Europe’s deputy marketing manager, said: ‘The working environment is rapidly evolving and life safety professionals must continuously acquire new knowledge and skills in order to remain at the cutting edge of what they do. Knowing how to correctly specify and install hybrid wireless fire detection systems is extremely beneficial and this new course, along with our other highly successful CPD courses, highlights our commitment to education and the sharing of our world class expertise.’
