Buy With Confidence scheme

by Mark Rowe

A Plymouth-based fire and security firm has joined a nationwide scheme designed to protect consumers from rogue traders.

Securi-Guard has been accepted into the ‘Buy With Confidence’ scheme, a partnership of local authority trading standards services to help consumers identify businesses that are committed to trading fairly.

The Estover-based firm had to go through checks by trading standards staff from Plymouth City Council to become approved.

Scott Boyd. Managing Director, Fire and Security, pictured, said: “Fair and transparent customer service is something we have always taken very seriously as a company. Clients have to be able to trust implicitly in our brand across all the services we deliver. Integrity is absolutely key and to gain accreditation under the Buy With Confidence Scheme can only underline our commitment to that. It is a mark of trust that I am very proud to have attained.”

And Lynda Braddock of Plymouth City Council’s Public Protection Service said: “Plymouth City Council is committed to supporting the many good businesses in the city; the Buy with Confidence scheme allows us to both promote the firms that promise to go the extra mile for their customers and help the residents of Plymouth choose a business that they can really trust.’

Checks included a review of Securi-Guard’s complaints history and trading standards officials visited its head offices to review the company’s customer care procedures.

Good references were required from satisfied clients and the company itself had to abide by the scheme’s code of conduct which had to be followed to the letter at all times. The company’s conduct and that of its staff will be monitored to see it meets the scheme.

About the scheme

Launched in 1999 by Hampshire Trading Standards in response to concerns about rogue traders, Devon Trading Standards introduced its own scheme in the same year – and it was soon adopted by neighbouring authorities. In 2008 the Hampshire and Devon schemes formally merged, by which time more than 20 local authorities were part of the initiative.
