Access Control

Spica at IFSEC

by Mark Rowe

A Slovenian access control, biometrics-based ID systems and time and attendance product company, Spica, is exhibiting at IFSEC in Birmingham next week. The firm is launching its new access control platform.

The Solvenian technology pioneer, which integrated NFC (Near Field Communication) technology into its systems as early as 2007, plans to build a network of partners and installers across the country within the next 18 months. Spica reports more than 3,000 customers in 25 countries, including a number in the UK market. The company already has a UK partner, Permatek, and works with manufacturers, such as HID, Morpho and Assa Abloy.

Spica says it aims to have in place several tier one partners, including systems integrators, specialists in workforce management, HR and ERP and security installers, across six main geographical regions in the UK. The company is also recruiting partners with specialist vertical or market expertise, including manufacturing and knowledge of industrial and factory systems.

Andrija Pušić, pictured, founder of Spica International, and head of the company’s R&D in Ljubljana, believes the UK is a market ripe for growth: “We have spent many years getting it right in other parts of the world, designing and installing thousands of access control and T&A systems. We are keen to capitalise on the popularity and growth of workforce management and also biometrics-based identification technologies in this market. We’ve been very successful with our first partner Permatek, but our goal now is to have a number of high-performing, dedicated partners in place over the next two years – and hundreds of Spica installations.”

Exhibiting for the fourth time at IFSEC this year, Spica (stand C35, Hall 4) will be demonstrating its new access control architecture. The company will also be showcasing its flagship product, for access control (Space) and workforce management (Time).

Nick Jakowiw, Managing Director, Spica Solutions Limited, adds: “Spica’s heritage is firmly rooted in designing and delivering superior, technology-driven products and solutions. Research and development and technical expertise are at the heart of everything the company does. We are fortunate to have a team behind us that is also incredibly supportive and responsive and we believe that this will also be a key factor in our successful growth into the UK over the next few years.”

Nick Jakowiw, Managing Director, heads the Spica UK team, supported by Rob Howland, Export Sales Manager.
