Access Control

Pub’s all-in-one access

by Mark Rowe

The SMARTair lock from Mul-T-Lock has been installed at The Bull pub to upgrade the security systems in the early 16th century building to all-in-one access control.

Based in Ditchling near Brighton, The Bull, voted by the Sunday Times as one of the top 10 pubs in the UK, has been welcoming travellors and locals for over 500 years, offering pub and bed and breakfast.

To complete a recent refurbishment, security was required to upgrade from mechanical locks to access control across the site, allowing guests to use entry cards on the bed and breakfast rooms, while restricting some pub access points for staff and management.

Local locksmiths, Lock Assist recommended SMARTair from Mul-T-Lock. According to the makers the product removes the need for data cabling and re-wiring and operates from a unique management card, so user fobs can be added or removed as required.

Says Molly Raftery, Manager of The Bull: “The refurbishment project has been carefully considered to complement the beautiful aesthetics of the original building whilst also engaging with the best of modern design. The aim is to continue to offer a warm and welcoming pub with an understated, contemporary edge.

“I was especially impressed with the style of SMARTair and also its flexibility in design, offering an ability to instantly allow or deny access rights throughout the pub and bed and breakfast facilities. The result is a smoother operating business as guests can be checked in and out quickly and efficiently whilst access points throughout the premises can be effectively managed.”

Steve Richardson of Lock Assist added: “The features of SMARTair, including how easy it is to install and programme, makes it an instant choice for upgrading the controllability and security level of any premises, with minimal disruption to everyday operations. The added advantage for The Bull is its aesthetic handle design to complement the recent refurbishment project.”

Steve Ross, Managing Director of Mul-T-Lock added: “For The Bull and similar pubs combined with bed and breakfast offerings, any access control security solution must deliver flexibility, convenience and useability. SMARTair offers all of these features and more in a sleek design, presenting an intuitive solution that is also substantially lower than the cost of integrating a full access control system.”
