Proximity reader

by Mark Rowe

PAC, part of Stanley Security Products, has launched a new range of readers. Available through the electronic security product distributor Norbain, the firms say that they can work with any system that uses the industry standard Wiegand protocol for proximity readers.

There are two ranges, GS3-LF and GS3-MT. For the first time in PAC’s history, all versions meet EN 50131-1 & 3, the standard for Intruder Alarm systems.

GS3-LF range
Available in mullion, standard, vandal and panel
Capable of reading existing PAC and KeyPAC range of credentials along with many Wiegand proximity cards and tokens
GS3-MT range
Available in Mullion, Standard, Proximity and PIN designs
Includes API for third party programmes to carry out key enrolment
Reads same range of credentials as LF range in addition to Mifare and Desfire EV1 CSN smart cards and tokens.
Designed to combat increasing risk of token cloning
GS3-MT reader and PAC Ops Desfire EV1 card and tokens meet AES 128-bit certification which secures the card and token details*.

Both ranges offer the installer on site configuration of reader outputs including PAC, Wiegand 26, 34,74-bit and the new unique PAC 64 by using the feature switches at the rear of the unit; without the need for factory setting or programming cards. When using the PAC 64 or Wiegand 74-bit outputs the products can also transmit the complete Wiegand code, removing the possibility of duplicate codes being received from different cards.

Note: * PAC 64 bit is only available on the PAC500 series controller range.
