Access Control

PoE controller

by Mark Rowe

New from Tyco Security Products is the KT-1 one door PoE controller from Kantech. The controller is for use on the new EntraPass software editions v6.02 and higher and comes in two versions for various installation methods. A single gang electrical back box mount is for typical door installs, while the KT-1-PCB is for cabinet mount for installing in a traditional security cabinet with battery backed up power supply.

Configuration of the controller, as well as the programming onto the security management software is done via a single touch-sensitive button. You hold the button for six seconds and the controller automatically enrols onto the EntraPass software through automatic device detection. This saves installation time as you do not need to enter manually serial numbers. This one button is also used to enrol more controllers, and display controller status LEDs.

You install the product with a removable terminal clip. Once the back plate with terminal clip with all connections has been fixed, you click the controller and cover and you are ready for configuration. The controller is up and running, with a working card in minutes, it’s claimed. KT-1 supports Kantech’ s ioProx readers, as well as third party multiple reader and biometric readers.

The KT-1 controller has flexible power input including PoE/PoE+ or 12 VDC. With the option to use Power over Ethernet, the KT-1 connects from an Ethernet PoE-injector or PoE-Switch to the EntraPass system. Using a single Ethernet cable, the product eliminates the need to home run all the cables or to provide a local power supply at the door.
