Access Control

Number plate recognition

by Mark Rowe

A new high definition automatic number plate recognition system (ANPR) for access control is being launched to the UK market. It can provide vehicle identification even at a10m distance, says Nortech. The ANPR Access HD from Nedap can be operated in standalone mode or with the Norpass PC-based access control software to manage admissions to sites.

Nortech’s MD Stephen Blackler said “We’ve been supplying the standard Nedap ANPR system for two years and it has proved very popular for those access control applications where vehicles can’t be issued with electronic tags.”

The product has worked with several access control systems, the firms say, suitable it is claimed for vehicle access control and barrier-free entry applications. The HD sensor with powerful IR LED lighting enables it to read number plates, ADR hazard plates, etc. in challenging circumstances at distances of up to 10 metres according to the firms.

While Nortech develops its own access control and vehicle management systems, the company has become the main UK distributor of Nedap’s ANPR systems, offering tag-free vehicle access control.

Stephen Blackler added: “The solutions that we provide using ANPR Access and ANPR Access HD don’t require the client to have access to a public vehicle registration database. We can also provide solutions that keep track of how long vehicles are on site and include exit control to provide added security and customer convenience.”

As a certified Nedap partner, Nortech also provides their other long-range identification systems such as uPASS Access, uPASS Reach and TRANSIT. Visit: www.nortechcontrol.com.
