Digital room key for serviced apartments

by Mark Rowe

SACO, The Serviced Apartment Company, is UK-based and oversees more than 80,000 apartments in 35 countries. The company sought a security access solution for properties, that could suit guests and offer a simplified method of checking in and out. It’s using an integration with KeezApp, a provider of mobile apps.

The Visionline access management platform, Mobile Access by ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions and KeezApp at SACO properties provide arriving guests with the ability to self-check in or out. A guest can use their own smart devices as a digital room key. Guests can use personal devices as keys to access a building’s front door, elevator or gym. By using the same Keezapp platform, guests can access other services such as Wi-Fi, digital room service menus, live chat with reception personnel and the ability to review their bill.

It means SACO has fewer guests that need assistance with checking in or out. With physical keys now not a requirement for every guest, SACO is further able to reduce costs associated with keycard production.

Indira Cassama, Apartment Manager at SACO Cannon Street in London, says: “As a company that values providing our guests with flexibility and choice, Mobile Access serves to enhance the satisfaction of those that seek out instant service and a more personalised experience. Its ability to provide advanced encryption technology further ensures that guests can obtain full peace of mind while staying at one of our properties.”

Developed using ASSA ABLOY’s Seos product, Mobile Access encrypts digital key and room number information, which is then sent to guest devices using a secure communications channel. Once received by a guest’s device, the data is then stored inside a digital vault within the property’s app, and is again transmitted via a secure channel when a guest places their device within proximity to the appropriate guest room lock. Guests staying at a SACO property can also use Keezapp’s digital passport feature that counters fraud by allowing staff to verify a guest’s identification.
