Access Control

ASSA ABLOY, G4S partner

by Mark Rowe

G4S has partnered on a global scale with ASSA ABLOY Access Control on an integration between its Symmetry security management system and ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio wireless lock.

ASSA ABLOY says that its Aperio is designed to upgrade mechanically locked doors and wirelessly connect them online and offline to new or existing access systems, with the firm says minimal modification to doors and premises, as a security upgrade.

G4S now offers its Symmetry software to control and integrate with Aperio wireless locking.

Says David Weinbach, Product Manager for G4S: “Aperio technology is incorporated into a broad range of locking products and offers our customers a tremendous array of options for applications, capability, credential technology, and appearance. When integrated with our Symmetry Security Management System, this allows the greatest functional and aesthetic flexibility to meet the needs of any expansion, upgrade, or new construction project.”

G4S’s new Symmetry EN-LDBU Controller acts as the bridge between Aperio Serial Hubs and the Symmetry Security Management System. When a credential is presented to an Aperio lock, the card data is sent via RF communications to the Aperio hub. The Aperio hub transfers this to the Symmetry EN-LDBU. The EN-LDBU contains a continuously updated database of credentials and permissions, and is able to autonomously process the request from the lock and make the access control decision independently of the Symmetry server.

Damian Marsh, ASSA ABLOY Access Control Managing Director adds: “G4S is one of the foremost innovators and suppliers within the security industry. This is a truly exciting integration for ASSA ABLOY Access Control, not only because of its global scale, but also the additional new ability for us assist with all phases of project planning and deployment. Together, G4S and ASSA ABLOY Access Control can be involved in security specification at a much earlier stage of the decision making process, to understand bespoke requirements and tailor the extensive Aperio solutions. The more integrations we can build on such a global scale, we can continue to deliver simple and intelligent ways of upgrading the controllability and security level of any premises.”
