Access Control

Access with facial recognition

by Mark Rowe

Videcon has launched Thermi-Scan. It’s an access control system using facial recognition as a way for staff and customers return to work safely after the Covid-19 outbreak.

The non-contact access system helps businesses control access based on a combination of five selectable safety measures including face recognition, body temperature, face mask detection, QR code or card and fob access. The product has the ability to deny access to individuals with an abnormal body temperature, those without required personal protective equipment or unidentified people. With social distancing and other rules set to become the ‘new normal’, Thermi-Scan can integrate with existing access control systems, the product distributor adds.

Applications, the firm says, includes restaurants and hospitality chains, offices, and beauty salons. Videcon claims that Thermi-Scan leads the field in usability and accuracy, with its ability to recognise and detect facial features from two metres away, customisable voice prompts to interact with users, and temperature accuracy of plus or minus 0.3 degrees C.

Managing Director Matt Rushall said: “We are so proud to bring Thermi-Scan to the market. Our facial recognition system has a reading range nearly a metre more than our competitors and a visibility reading splay which ranges from a height of 0.8 of a metre to 2.2 metres making it hugely versatile and best in class.

“We know that specifiers, HR and people managers place huge importance on minimising disruption to the flow of employees in the workspace and Thermi-scan has been designed with that in mind.

“Thermi-Scan is the only product of its type on the market that allows for customisable audio prompts to be pre-recorded, meaning that businesses and organisations can tailor verbal instructions to suit them. It can take a temperature reading within 0.2 seconds and with an accuracy range of ±0.3°C. It identifies staff, ensures they are wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and allow or deny access based on user set parameters.

“Our business is all about detecting and protecting and this has never been more important than in the era of Covid-19. That is why our new trade campaign, Detect & Protect says exactly what we do.”
