Travel security for Euro 2016 football

Despite the downing of the Paris-Cairo airliner on May 18, it’d take a lot to stop some people from personal or executive travel, either changing their routines or stopping altogether. The task, then, is to equip them to carry on, safely. We spoke to a medical and security emergency service before Euro 2016.

Research and preparation

As Rob Walker, Head of Travel Security Intelligence at International SOS and Control Risks, told Professional Security, some will respond to such news with alarm, although the risk of such a catastrophe happening to them is vanishingly small. Other people are determined to plough on regardless. In general, the company’s advise is to do a bit of basic research and preparation before you travel; it’s almost always going to pay off, if you know what risks to look for, and if you think ahead about the way you are going to respond to threats. That will give you an advantage, even if the actual threat does not turn out to happen. Take the Euro 2016 football tournament in France. As background, as featured last issue, the French authorities extended a legal state of emergency that began after the November 2015 terror assault in Paris, to take in the month-long championship; and the annual Tour de France cycling.
