Thin rear projection cubes

by Mark Rowe

Slim Cubes from eyevis UK are in use at the control room covering the longest non-estuarial road tunnel in Britain. The audio-visual company Electrosonic chose eyevis displays for a new video wall installation in the Highways Agency control centre at Hindhead Tunnel after technical evaluations.

Electrosonic selected the latest eyevis LED illuminated DLP 50-inch HD Slim Cube rear projection system because the control centre required a thin rear projection cube which allowed all installation and servicing from the front as no rear access was available. The EC-50-LHD-SLIM LED illuminated cubes used in the project is the claimed to be the slimmest cube in the world at only 422mm deep (including the screen) and can be wall mounted or basement mounted. The new Slim-rear projection-cubes also have a 50-inch screen and full HD resolution.

eyevis UK managing director Steve Murphy, pictured, said: “The Hindhead Tunnel was constructed to reduce congestion and vehicle emissions and we are delighted to have been involved in such an important project to update the technology being used. Reliability and being easy to service are key in such an important control centre and the new video wall ensures that the latest technology is being used to aid traffic management.”

The new Slim-Cubes can be used in areas that were not previously suitable for rear projection cubes due to space requirements.

The Hindhead Tunnel, opened in 2011, is part of the 6.5 km Hindhead bypass dual-carriageway on the A3 London to Portsmouth road. The tunnel is the longest under-land road tunnel in the UK and takes the road beneath the Devil’s Punch Bowl, a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
