Secure Station award

by Mark Rowe

The Conservative MP Ben Gummer visited Ipswich railway station recently to present the Abellio Greater Anglia station team with a ‘Secure Station’ award. The rail operator achieved reaccreditation of the ‘Secure Status’ for Diss, Stowmarket, Ipswich and Harwich International rail stations.

The national awards scheme recognises good practice where train operators have worked with the British Transport Police (BTP) and other partners in bringing in security measures at stations, taking into account station design, management practices, security and passenger safety. The Secure Stations Scheme is directed by the Department for Transport and BTP.

Mr Gummer said: “I am really pleased to present this latest award win by the superb team at Ipswich Station. Station safety is important to everyone, especially those arriving or leaving late at night or first thing in the morning. It is great that the staff at Ipswich Station have thought about how to improve safety with such rigour and, as a result, receive this award.”

And Andrew Goodrum, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Customer Services Director said: ‘I should like to thank the team for their efforts in successfully receiving reaccreditation under the Secure Stations Scheme, and for the support and guidance of British Transport Police in working with Abellio Greater Anglia on this achievement.”
