Police are calling on the public to help trace graffiti vandal who struck in Exeter. Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) are appealing for information after a train was targeted by a graffiti vandal using the tag ‘Hiace!’.

The vandal struck between 1am and 5am on Thursday, 1 March 2012 while the South West Trains unit was stabled overnight at a railway yard in Exeter.

Investigating officer, Stewart Warne, of BTP Exeter, said: “Graffiti and the spreading of tags on trains and railway property amounts to vandalism, pure and simple.

“This has no artistic merit and costs the rail industry huge sums of money to clean up.

“Within BTP, we have officers specially trained to trace graffiti vandals and we are working to identify and apprehend ‘Hiace!’.

“But, at the moment, we need assistance from the public to put an abrupt stop to this person’s criminal behaviour.

“We are also working closely with our colleagues in the rail industry to trace those responsible, and enquiries – including retrieving and viewing CCTV from the surrounding area – are ongoing.”
