Irish bus retrofit

by Mark Rowe

A case study of a UK installer’s three year retrofit contract for Bus Éireann, the bus operator in the Republic of Ireland.

After completion of phase two in the last quarter of 2014, Croydon-based 21st Century Technology has announced the final order for phase three from the Irish operator.

The original order was for 250 installs on various Scania and Volvo vehicles requiring 11-camera systems. The installer reports that it used equipment already available on the fleet. This meant Bus Éireann did not have to buy unnecessary items. The adoptive warranty scheme offered by 21st Century ensures that the infrastructure on its vehicles receives the same aftercare as the new equipment installed, the company adds. The latest order, for a further 28 retrofits, is due to begin shortly.

Andrew Prince, 21st Century Technology Divisional Director for Bus UK and Éire says: “We’re really pleased that we have had the opportunity to display our ability to integrate technology on Bus Éireann’s vehicles, and are delighted that we have the opportunity to further impress them with this latest order.” Visit www.21stplc.com.
