IAATI meet

by Mark Rowe

Metal theft and theft of cars and their parts – such as number plates and catalytic converters – were among topics at the annual International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI). Their National Vehicle Crime Conference 2013 ran at Loughborough, in mid-June.

An opening address was by Leicestershire Police Chief Inspector Stephen Potter, before presentations. David Wood of City of London Police spoke on the IFED; and Mike Briggs, security research manager, at Thatcham. Chris Clarke of the UK Association of Fire Investigators gave an insurance case study on a vehicle fire.

Mike Briggs is now the association’s first Vice President, Thatcham’s Vehicle Security Research Manager. Simon Hurr was the outgoing president; the new president is County Down-based Elaine Hardy.
