Eurostar, SPT extensions

by Mark Rowe

The security arm of the FM services contractor Mitie has been awarded two contract extensions for Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and Eurostar, which together are worth £12m a year. The contract with SPT has been extended for a further five years; and Eurostar, for two years.

For SPT, the Glasgow region public transport body, Mitie will deliver security management services including manned guarding, CCTV, mobile response services, and stewarding to a range of bus and subway stations, corporate offices and depots. Mitie will conduct security management services across seven sites in the Glasgow area. SPT will get additional management support within the contract to define support mechanisms for manning both core and emergency security. The contract operates a total of 1,287 hours per week with 30 employees working across the seven locations in and around the city. SPT is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. Mitie reports a decade-long partnership with SPT.

At Eurostar, the FM firm will continue to offer a range of security services for the four UK Eurostar sites – St Pancras International (pictured), Ebbsfleet and Ashford International and Temple Mills Engineering depot. These services include passenger searches and screening, access control and E Gates. The contract firm says this extension stems from it delivering on all its ten previous tender commitments which includes Investment in people, Innovation, agility and creativity commitment to quality and process. Mitie says it will look to further develop the service by introducing a PPM (Proposal for Preventive Maintenance) on the x-ray search lanes. This proposal would result in an X-Ray Engineer carrying out servicing of all the X-ray equipment including any repairs twice a week. This will ensure that the equipment is operating effectively and aims to improve the security performance and time spent during the security checks, the firm adds.

Jason Towse, Managing Director of Mitie’s security management business, said: “We are delighted and proud to extend our partnerships with both Eurostar and SPT and will continue to provide industry leading capabilities and solutions to ensure a high standard of security and customer service is delivered. This is testament to Mitie’s engaged workforce and expertise within the transport sector and we look forward to developing these relationships further.”
