East Midlands Airport jobs fair

by Mark Rowe

East Midlands Airport (EMA) and neighbouring, related businesses are recruiting to fill over 350 vacancies at its annual jobs fair on Saturday, February 1, from 10am to 2pm.

Jobs at the airport include customer-facing roles within the passenger services team, security (pictured courtesy of EMA; passenger terminal screening), car parking and Escape Lounge. Also recruiting are the airport’s retailers (World Duty Free), bars, restaurants and food outlets (Autogrill, Greggs and Frankie and Benny’s). Airline JET2 and check-in agents, Swissport, have vacancies too. The global air freight firms UPS and DHL are also attending the jobs fair as part of their recruitment drive for more cargo handling roles.

The airport describes its own academy is a dedicated employment and education facility for adults. Working alongside the local, Leicestershire-based Stephenson College and Jobcentre Plus, it supports people into employment. Job-seekers who feel they would benefit from more training and support before applying for jobs can discuss their needs with tutors who will be at the jobs fair.

Colleen Hempson, East Midlands Airport’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, says: “Serving just under five million passengers a year and as the UK’s busiest dedicated freight airport, the 24-hour operation makes it one of the most diverse businesses to work for in this region. With so many varied roles on offer plus careers and skills advice, the jobs fair is a great event for finding out what it’s like to work or train here.”

Entry to the jobs fair is free and there is no need to book, organisers add. Free bus travel is available on Trent Barton’s Skylink services to and from: Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Loughborough, Long Eaton, Coalville, Shepshed, Ilkeston, Burton-on-Trent, Swadlincote and Ashby (Skylink), My15 and Airline 9 bus services. To claim a free ticket, print off a voucher at www.trentbarton.co.uk/userfiles/jobsfair1.20.pdf and hand it to the bus driver.
