Cycle storage

by Mark Rowe

Protect a Cycle Pro is a new security storage product for cycles from Trimetals. It’s been awarded level one and two security ratings by the Loss Prevention Certification Board and approval by the Secured by Design initiative (official Police Preferred Specification).

Trimetals’s Protect a Cycle, a PVC coated galvanised steel unit with security features, was launched in 2008. Trimetals has launched a new ‘Pro’ offering extra heavy-gauge steel panels and comes complete with an integral metal floor, ground anchor, 2m security chain , three padlocks and stainless steel locking hasps with padlock protectors. All fasteners are provided, including those for securing the product to a hard base.
Like all the firm’s storage units, the ‘Pro’ comes with a 25 year guarantee on the panels, is maintenance-free and fire-resistant, the Dorset firm says. According to the makers it’s particularly suitable for storage in exposed or high risk areas or in high density urban sites where they may be installed in small front gardens.
The new ‘Pro’ is larger than the standard model and can hold up to three full sized adult bikes, including most modern hybrids. The makers say that it’s been in response to demand from the cycling community and home owners, with over half of stolen cycles taken from private residences, said Andrew Smith, Trimetals marketing director.

He said: “Cycle theft has doubled in the last decade and as high spec, desirable items they are a key target for opportunistic and, more worryingly, organised crime, with city areas being a particular problem. That’s where our Protect a Cycle has proved extremely popular and now the new ‘Pro’ ups the security again to give an unprecedented level of protection, endorsed by the relevant authorities.” The product is available in cream or a two tone green colour scheme. It is designed to be bolted down onto a hard (concrete) base and is delivered flat packed with assembly instructions.

The Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) is the official standard-setter for industry and government to ensure that fire and security products perform effectively. For a manufacturer to achieve approvals, the LPCB tests each product to criteria and in Trimetals case, subjects the storage unit to heavy duty assaults using a wide variety of accessories including bolt cutters, pipe wrench, metal plate shears, screwdrivers, hand drill, punches and knives.

The new ‘Pro’ costs £999 including UK mainland delivery and VAT and can be purchased directly from Trimetals on www.protectacycle.co.uk and selected GBC show sites throughout the UK. Visit www.trimetals.co.uk
