CCTV to capture moving traffic

by Mark Rowe

The London Borough of Bexley is installing automated enforcement systems, to capture moving traffic contravention at several key locations. The fixed-redeployable cameras from Videalert will supplement the council’s fleet of CCTV cars. The council says it can extend enforcement to improve driver compliance.

The contract has been awarded to OpenView Security Solutions, a provider of CCTV to local authorities, under the ELS framework agreement, which London boroughs can use for direct procurement. Videalert says this CCTV combines ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) with video analytics to automatically capture only the number plates of vehicles that actually commit offences. It will also be used to enforce weight restriction contraventions applying to HGVs on designated roads.

Tim Daniels, Sales and Marketing Director at Videalert, says: “We are pleased to be again working with OpenView Security Solutions on this important contract. The platform provides councils with high levels of flexibility by supporting multiple civil traffic enforcement, traffic management, community safety and crime prevention applications simultaneously.”

As featured in the August 2016 print issue of Professional Security, the nearby London Borough of Bromley is installing automated CCTV enforcement for road safety purposes outside five schools.
