Cargo guide

by Mark Rowe

A commercial vehicle safety and security product company has launched a Cargo and Road Transport (CART) Security Guide ahead of the Commercial Vehicle Show. The CV Show runs from April 25 to 27, at the Birmingham NEC.

A working group was chaired by Maple and saw contributions from DIPS (Distribution Industry Partnership Scotland), the trade body the RHA (Road Haulage Association), DHL, RSA (Royal Sun Alliance) Insurance Group, Motorway Buddy and NaVCIS (National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service).

The document has 16 chapters covering cargo crime and associated threats that operators face: theft, load and lorry hijacking, The Romanian MO and migrants seeking a way to the UK from the Continent.

The A4 colour, 104-page publication will be available free to anyone interested in learning more about the security risks and vulnerabilities in the road haulage sector. CART Security Guide will be officially launched at the CV Show with copies available from stand 4E04 in Hall 4.

Alan Maple, Technical Director for Maple, said: “For more than 43 years, Maple have made it our business to improve the security of commercial vehicles. During this time we have worked closely with the logistics industry, marine insurance companies, vehicle and OE manufactures, police, trade originations and government bodies. It has enabled us to see the subject from all perspectives and gain a greater, well rounded understanding as a result. We have asked for involvement (on this project) from other professionals and stakeholders within the industry, who like myself share a passion for fighting cargo crime. We wanted their insight, experience and professional opinion to ensure that the guide remained as informative and relevant as possible.”
