Workshop for DOCOs

by Mark Rowe

Secured by Design (SBD) member company Business Insight 3 Ltd (Bi3) has hosted a CCTV and electronic security Workshop for Police Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) working in the North West, and north Wales, to highlight the latest technology. The workshop, at Bi3’s HQ in Chorley, pictured, covered ANPR, access control, CCTV, video analytics and CCTV redaction.

The DOCOs discussed the tech in the context of the real world, and crime trends, and were brought up to speed with Bi3’s Davantis video analytics product, which holds Secured by Design accreditation. Topics for the day included:

• what to consider when advising about CCTV as a crime prevention measure
• what CCTV can pick up in images, what it cannot and the size and quality of those image
• uses of CCTV and its limitations in preventing crime; and
• the importance of abiding by relevant legislation, when recommending the use of CCTV.

Bi3 MD Glen Higson said: “As Managing Director I am delighted to have welcomed the North West and North Wales Designing Out Crime Officers to Bi3 for The CCTV & Electronic Security Learning Workshop. Bi3 were awarded Secured by Design for our Davantis Video Analytics solution in 2016 and are always keen to share our electronic security expertise with relevant bodies.

“Richard Eaves, Operations Manager at Bi3 has worked closely with SBD Development Officer Hazel Goss to create a bespoke workshop that suits the needs of the team and, having personally spoken directly to a number of the attendees it is clear that they have been successful in delivering a relevant and beneficial event. I would like to offer my thanks to Hazel and also to extend the offer to other Regional DOCOs teams to attend similar future workshops.”

And Hazel Goss said: “Business Insight 3 are one of my clients based in Lancashire who invited me to visit them when I joined SBD. My general knowledge when it came to CCTV and Video Analytics was quite basic, but after Bi3 showed me their capabilities it opened my eyes and I was truly amazed, so much so that we discussed a training event for my DOCO’s.

“Having worked alongside our training department an agenda of training was developed which would go towards DOCO’s accredited learning and development qualifications. The workshop was very successful, with some commenting that this was one of the best training events they have attended. Due to its success we will be looking at holding similar training events.”

Feedback from the DOCOs who attended the workshop included “one of the best training events I have attended”, “thoroughly enjoyed and feel totally inspired having been of late disillusioned with CCTV in general”, “a brilliant workshop with a vast amount of information gained” and “the format of the day was perfect, I’ve learnt more than I had envisaged”.
