Training

Training is the key

by Mark Rowe

Take your career in security to a higher level, writes James Kelly, pictured, CEO of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA).

The private security industry is an ever growing employment sector, providing new and exciting careers for school leavers as well as experienced professionals. There is a wide variety of roles available within both manpower and technical security with fantastic opportunities for career progression. The security sector prides itself on making managers from workers who started their security career from scratch. With the ability to earn an extremely competitive salary whilst working flexible hours that would suit you and your lifestyle, a role in security is becoming ever more desirable.

The key to a successful security career is the availability of continuous tailored training and support. As the industry is continuing to create more jobs year on year, it has become essential for all job seekers including those looking for promotion within the industry to prove that they have the correct set of skills and knowledge required to tackle a new role. It is not only vital that job seekers are confident in their own abilities and knowledge, but also essential for employers and business stakeholders to be reassured that their officers, operators and managers are trained and working to a high standard to make daily tasks more efficient even when being faced with multiple challenges.

Who to choose?

Choosing the best training provider for you can be tricky at first if you are unsure where to look. The BSIA Training Providers are among some of the best placed companies to ensure that you or your employees are trained to the highest standards every step of the way. BSIA Training Providers have to meet strict criteria reviewed annually to become a member. The main criteria to become a provider includes – credited the ISO9001 certification, good reputation of senior stakeholders and that the providers have been training individuals and businesses for over two years ensuring they are financial sound.

The criteria is set to help ensure high standards of behaviour by training providers towards their customers, learners and other stakeholders, as well as fellow members of the wider BSIA. It is extremely important to us that we challenge competitors and strive for the highest possible standards of professional behaviour in operating our businesses and delivering training and learning. We provide quality training set to the highest standards so that the wider security industry may thrive with the best trained personnel.

With expertise across the whole industry, Training Providers of the BSIA provide access to courses offered in areas such as Alarms, Access Control, CCTV to Door Supervision and much more. As our training providers are members of the BSIA they have contacts within all the major employers in the sector, as the Association represents 70pc of the private security industry in UK. This enables the Training Providers to work very closely with employers and be aware of what they are looking for in their employees and any new legislation’s that may change the existing training requirements.
