Training deficit

by Mark Rowe

Only 26 per cent of organisations believe staff understand company security policies and only 12pc of senior managers see security as a priority, highlighting a serious risk to UK businesses from cyber fraud. Worse still is the fact that 44 per cent of organisations admit to only investing in security training as the result of a breach.

So says the security awareness consultancy, The Security Company. The firm has issued guidelines and advice online to help companies address this deficit, warning managers that training is not enough, and there is an urgent need to invest in shaping attitudes through staff education. The report is available at http://www.thesecurityco.com/news/expert-comment/awareness-is-all-about-attitude/

“Training is part of the awareness solution, but it cannot work in isolation,” advises Bernadette Palmer, Head of Communications at The Security Company. “Turning security policies into something meaningful is an art form, and requires investment and resource to ensure it’s a success.”
