New awarding organisation

by Mark Rowe

AoFA Qualifications (AOFAQ) has been newly approved by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to deliver licence-linked security qualifications, making it one of seven UK awarding organisation in this position.

David Arnold, Director of Qualifications is pictured. He said: “We are pleased that we have gathered a great team of highly experienced security industry professionals within AoFA Qualifications which I’m sure will have positive impact on the security sector.”

AoFAQ, an Ofqual awarding organisation points to an undercover operation by the BBC shown earlier this year exposing malpractice in the security training industry. The BBC reported that security guards may be obtaining licenses and working in the UK fraudulently after buying their qualifications for cash. AoFAQ says that its security arm, Security Industry Accredited Qualifications (SIAQ) is run for the industry and governed by the industry. These include subject matter expertise in Close Protection, Door Supervision, CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) and Security Guarding.

Awarding Organisations are responsible for the governance of their training centres. Here, AoFAQ and SIAQ say that they are taking this responsibility as paramount by focusing on reducing malpractice by controls and early detection. Confidence in security qualifications is the bedrock of the industry and without these standards the industry cannot progress, the firm adds.
