Midlands date

by Mark Rowe

The Midlands Security and Risk Society (MSRS) are holding their AGM on Wednesday, June 14. Richard Underwood, outgoing Chairman, writes:

MSRS is a volunteer-run society that holds a monthly lunchtime members talk from October to June each year, and have been doing so for over 50 years.
We meet at the West Midlands Police’s sports and social club, ‘Tally Ho’, in Edgbaston, near Birmingham city centre. This is a very good venue/facility that also benefits from free car parking.

Talks over the past year have been varied and interesting, and have included a member’s ‘speed dating’ style meeting offering a set of short presentations, plus outside speaker talks on:

– The NSI company audit/inspection process
– Effective use/pitfalls of social media
– BAFE registration schemes
– ARC Operations
– Standards for Alarm Transmission Systems
– Tool box security
– LPCB’s SABRE security assessment scheme

We are very grateful to our past speakers for giving freely of their time, and always welcome suggestions/volunteers for future speakers/meetings.

We are a unique group, insofar as our membership is drawn from both the insurance and security/fire protection industries – with this mix of backgrounds/interests providing a useful set of social and professional contacts and a wide interchange of views. Our aim is to provide a source of learning that will reinforce, complement or stretch our member’s knowledge of a wide range of security related topics. Such talks can often be counted towards any CPD scheme members may be following. If you’ve never heard of us, then visit our website for more information – see www.msrs.co.uk.

If you are a past member who has perhaps moved jobs and lost touch, you’d be welcomed back!
