Insider masterclass

by msecadm4921

‘Dealing with the Insider Threat’ is the title of a masterclass by the Security Institute on July 2, from 9am until 4pm, at the Department for International Development (DFID), 1 Palace Street, London, SW1E 5HEQ. Tickets are £95 for institute members and £145 for non-members. Organisers point out that dealing with the ‘insider threat’ is a key component of an overall security strategy. It is a topic increasingly high on the agenda of the CSO and CISO. For example according to the ‘2011 Cost of a Data Breach Study’ sponsored by Symantec, negligence and malicious attacks are the top causes of breaches.

On the agenda

Ways to tackle the insider threat. For the smarter organisations this presents an opportunity in harder times to quickly and significantly reduce their exposure through straightforward and relatively inexpensive initiatives.

People want to be more secure – there is an enormous willingness amongst workforces to follow good practice. How to harness and channel their support.

–  Dealing with breaches of trust rather than breaches of security.

Getting their attention – moving employees from being unaware to being committed to information protection, using real-life stories and subject matter that people are concerned about.

Measurement – “if you’re not measuring, you’re only practising”.

Case study and proposed model for effective security communications.
