Speakers have now been confirmed at the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) Employment Law Seminar, offering legal advice to security companies operating in Scotland. The event is running at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow on Tuesday, September 29. Speakers are:
Tom Muirhead BA MCIPD, Employment Tribunal Consultant, Moorepay Legal Services Ltd.
Tom is an employment law specialist with a background in HR at senior level. He has represented a wide range of small, medium and corporate clients in all business sectors at Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal. Tom will update on Government thinking regarding zero-hours contracts, employers’ legal obligations surrounding holiday pay, overtime and commission and the legalities of apprenticeships.
Jane Duffy, Education and Qualifications Advisor at Skills Development Scotland.
As Education and Qualifications Advisor for the National Training Programmes Development team at Skills Development Scotland – the national skills body for Scotland – Jane’s particular focus is policy development for Modern Apprenticeships. Jane’s presentation will introduce the basics of modern apprenticeships, explaining how security companies can go about employing an apprentice and what funding is available to enable them to do so.
David Scott, Innovation Lecturer at New College Lanarkshire.
David is an Innovation Lecturer and Qualification Verifier, teaching the Electronic Fire and Security Apprenticeship at New College Lanarkshire. David is also responsible for such roles as Qualification Development Specialist (designing and developing the new Modern Apprenticeship Qualification for Securities). David’s presentation will explore the learning experience for apprentices, spelling out employers’ responsibilities and what happens at the end of an apprenticeship.
Terri Jones, Director General, Skills for Security
Terri, pictured, has held senior positions within Proskills Sector Skills Council, The National Skills Academy for Process and Manufacturing and the Learning and Skills Improvement Service. As Director General at Skills for Security – the industry’s sector skills body – Terri will deliver a presentation on current development work for specific security courses in Scotland.
The half-day event has been developed to update on the latest changes in employment law, in a security context. After the seminar, there will be an opportunity for delegates to network with other security professionals and the guest speakers over lunch.
