Crowd safety conference

by Mark Rowe

eResponse Crowd Safety, part of the eResponse Group, is holding a free International Crowd Safety and Security Conference on Thursday, March 17.

The all-day event at the National Motorcycle Museum near Birmingham will cover counter terrorism at events in the wake of the Paris attacks; training for crowd safety; accessing funding; and the science behind managing crowds.

The conference is being hosted by eResponse Crowd Safety’s Andy Hollinson, pictured. The company trains staff for such major events including stadium concerts, football matches and last autumn’s Rugby World Cup.

Mr Hollinson said: “It’s great to be hosting our first conference, bringing together the best and brightest in the business. Many companies, particularly smaller ones, simply do not have the budget to attend something like this if there is a fee attached. But we believe, that in light of the constant vigilance needed due to terrorism, that these are subjects that everyone who takes responsibility for the safety of others needs to be able to discuss and learn from.”

Speakers include Dr Mick Upton, event security pioneer and a founder of the International Centre for Crowd Management and Security Studies at Buckinghamshire New University; Dr John Drury, Reader in Social Psychology at the University of Sussex; Clifford Stott, Professor of Social Psychology at Keele University; and Heather McGill, who was head of guest experience at the London 2012 Olympics. Mr Hollinson and colleague Robbie Naish will also speak.

The conference is aimed at event managers, security and crowd safety companies, football safety officers, arena safety managers and stadium managers. For more on the conference, tickets, or to book an exhibition space, email [email protected].
