Awareness summit

by Mark Rowe

A free online event this afternoon considers the future – of personal security, of education and of data. The Kaspersky Academy & Security Awareness Summit: sub-titled Total Control versus Nurtured Consciousness, begins with an opening by Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of the cyber company.

Among the sessions is a round table on learning techniques and metrics, moderated by Jinan Budge, Principal Analyst, at the market research firm Forrester. Speaking are:

Denis Barinov, Head of Kaspersky.Academy, Kaspersky;
Perry Carpenter, Chief Evangelist and Strategy Officer, KnowBe4;
Oz Alashe, CEO & Founder, CybSafe;
Ashley Rose, CEO & Founder, Living Security; and
Josh Douglas, VP of Product Management, Mimecast.

Among workshops from 2.45pm, one on security awareness adaptions is due to hear from:

Martin Smith, MBE, Owner and Chairman, SASIG (Security Awareness Special Interest Group);
Zsuzsanna Berenyi, Head of Cybersecurity Awareness & Culture, London Stock Exchange Group;
Gaynor Rich, Global Director Cyber Security Strategy, Unilever;
Ellie Warner, Global Head, Cyber Training and Awareness, Standard Chartered Bank; and
Gareth Thomas, Colleague Education and Awareness Senior Manager, Lloyds Banking Group.

As organisers say, the paradox is that tracking any form of data is only too easy, yet the digital space is viewed by many as a place of freedom. Among the questions for businesses and personal IT users: What is more effective – to continuously train or constantly supervise remote personnel? Will additional control measures over people’s behaviour result in new habits in the longer term? How can systems be configured, including supervisory and educational elements, in a way to keep employer and employees happy?
