by Mark Rowe

The security company Securitas with commercial property management company, Jones Lang LaSalle, is advertising for its first apprentice at Centre Court Shopping Centre in Wimbledon, with a new apprenticeship in Providing Security Services.

The vacancy at Centre Court Shopping Centre is for an Apprentice Security Officer aged between 18 and 24. The part-time position will allow the successful candidate to complete a funded apprenticeship in Providing Security Services through training provider, Skills for Security, while working 30 hours per week on a rolling roster that includes days, late evenings and weekend work.

Among the Apprentice Security Officer’s duties, he or she will be responsible for protecting the public, the building and customers, responding to emergency situations, liaising with emergency services when required, producing written incident reports and monitoring the fire alarm. Providing the apprentice completes their first year’s training successfully, they will attain the Apprenticeship in Providing Security Services qualification. They will then have the option of moving on to a Level 3 Award in Customer Service in year two.

Andrew Anchors, Account Director at Securitas Security Services (UK) Ltd, says: “Security work might not always leap to mind when young people are looking for a job. However, there are plenty of opportunities for long-term careers incorporating roles within management positions and this apprenticeship scheme is the perfect way to help to get youngsters on the first rung of the ladder.” And Centre Director for Centre Court Shopping Centre, Suzy Wood said: “We are delighted to be part of this initiative. This is a great opportunity for us to recruit an enthusiastic local individual who may otherwise be struggling to find employment due to limited workplace experience and, for the successful candidate, it provides a fantastic platform towards a future career as a result of the valuable training benefits on offer within a fast-paced and varied environment”.
