Rally and Run

by Mark Rowe

Sponsored by security industry public relations and marketing company Graeme Powell Marketing (GPM), and raising funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People charity, over 90 cars turned out last Sunday for the 2016 Ilkley Rally and Run, organised by Lessian Motors of Ilkley.

On the day, participants drove their vintage, classic, and performance cars over 100 miles of the Yorkshire Dales’ most picturesque and challenging roads – raising over £1,200 for charity.

Starting at 9.30am, participants gathered at Ilkley Rugby club (pictured) to sign on and receive their route instructions. After navigating their way to Kettlewell in Upper Wharfedale, where crews stopped for lunch at the historic Blue Bell Inn, the route then looped back to Ilkley via Malham. The day ended with all the cars returning to Ilkley Rugby Club, where drivers and passengers enjoyed a BBQ and live music into the early evening.

Afterwards, Graeme Powell said: “Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity and centre of excellence in training hearing dogs to alert deaf people to everyday household sounds and danger signals. It’s a very worthy cause and GPM is delighted to have helped raised such a great amount by providing the event’s publicity, literature design and printing services, all at zero cost. Donations are still coming in from the day, so we hope to increase the initial sum raised!

“I would like to thank Lessian Motors for organising the event and everyone who helped make the run a great success, and of course the participants who gave up their time and money for such a worthy cause. With the excellent feedback we’ve had from the crews this year, we’re really looking forward to supporting next year’s Ilkley Rally and Run.”
