One man and his dog, sniff out their 1000th “illegal” immigrant

by msecadm4921

Well actually it’s two dogs. The man is Wagtail UK’s longest serving  team member, James Niven, and his team of Body Detection Dogs are Lola and Wilson,  and together they have racked up their 1000th person trying to enter the UK  Illegally.

Each time an illegal immigrant enters the UK it is estimated by the Home Office  that the cost of processing and repatriation to the UK tax payer is twenty five  thousand pounds per illegal. This value is what is called by the Home Office  ‘cost avoidance’, Therefore James and his dogs have saved the UK  tax payer approximately an incredible 25 million pounds!

Since 2008, James along with the rest of the team of Wagtail handlers and dogs,  have stopped over 8250 illegals with a total saving to the taxpayer of roughly  206 million pounds.

James Niven is a former RAF Police dog handler of some 12 years, with service  in Belize, Cyprus and Northern Ireland, who has been working with the UK Border  Agency Officers at Calais and Dieppe. His dogs are Lola a 6 year old German  Short Haired Pointer, and Wilson a 4 year old English Springer Spaniel and they  have been working and training together since the start of the contract in 2008.
