IPELA ENGINE EX

by Amy

The six new IPELA ENGINE EX™cameras and one Unitised PTZ camera, represent a new breed of security cameras designed to deliver advances in dynamic range, frame capture speed and low-light performance for demanding imaging applications, in the mid-to-high level video surveillance marketplace. Each of these cameras is well fitted for applications on transportation as well as monitoring traffic, casinos, banks and factories. In addition to setting new standards for camera performance, the unique IPELA ENGINE EX™architecture allows for unprecedented flexibility.

The six new IPELA ENGINE EX™series cameras include the fixed-angle SNC-VB600 and SNC-VB630 Box cameras; the SNC-VM600 and SNC-VM630 Mini Dome cameras, and the SNC-VM601 and SNC-VM631 Vandal-Proof Indoor Mini Domes.  These incorporate improvements in core camera functionality, designed to provide extraordinary imaging even in the most challenging security scenarios.

With the newly improved View-DR dynamic range enhancing technology, each IPELA ENGINE EX™series model provides astounding detail even when imaging brightly backlit figures. Noise reduction is significantly enhanced and low light sensitivity is tremendously improved to more than twice that of Sony’s previous pace-setting cameras.  Maximum frame rates are doubled from 30 fps to 60 fps at both HD and full HD resolution.

The IPELA ENGINE EX™is Sony’s integrated signal processing system for high picture quality which combines the company’s unique signal processing and video analytics technologies.  This signal processing system provides four unique features:

1.    High frame rate of 60 frames per second (fps) – provides smooth moving pictures
2.    View-DR – realises high-contrast images with a wide dynamic range equivalent to 90 dB for Full HD (1080p) and 130 dB for HD (720p)
3.    XDNR – realises excellent dynamic noise reduction
4.    Enhanced DEPA™ Advanced – provides state of the art video image analytics such as face detection

The Detektor Jury were impressed with IPELA ENGINE, commenting that; “IPELA ENGINE is the outstanding highlight of video surveillance products in 2012. A sensational improvement of picture quality and an essential contribution to image usability”.

Outstanding low light performance affordable price models
In addition to these new high performance models, Sony is announcing three affordable IP cameras. The SNC-VB600B box camera, SNC-VM600B Mini Dome and SNC-VM601B Vandal-Proof Indoor Mini Dome are HD-resolution IP cameras designed to meet the demand for advanced capabilities at reduced prices. These models boast the same low light capability and wide dynamic range as IPELA ENGINE EX™models using XDNR and View-DR with 30 fps streaming capability.

Outdoor unitised PTZ models
Sony has also unveiled the new SNC-ER585 outdoor rapid dome camera in its Unitised series of outdoor pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) dome cameras. It offers exceptional value whilst retaining many of its high-end features. These include being a full HD (1080p) camera that incorporates an optical 30x zoom lens, providing high-quality images in a range of operating temperatures from -40°C (40°F) to +60°C (+140°F). The 360 degree endless rotation, combined with 210 tilt angle, provides a great range of vision. The ½.8-type Exmor CMOS sensor is a proven performer delivering full HD at 30 fps.  The image quality is excellent even with extreme backlighting with DynaView dynamic range expansion technology.  Image stabilisation, too, keeps images sharp even when zooming in at 30x. Minimum illumination is 1.7 lux (target).

Commenting on the announcement, Ryan Kawashima, Strategic Marketing Manager, Sony Europe said: “The IPELA ENGINE platform will play a central role for all of Sony’s indoor and outdoor security cameras for years to come. It delivers the best image quality, which when combined with the robustness and design features that Sony’s security cameras are known for, only strengthens our positioning in the market. This is a significant milestone in Sony’s technological advancement of IP-based security video and will ensure we can provide a cost-effective platform for not only developing new applications, but also refining and customising existing ones.”

IPELA ENGINE EX™series IP cameras will be available late 2012. The SNC-ER585 will be available in early Q1 2013, with pricing to be announced at that time.
