IDENTICOM HELPS ONE HOUSING GROUP MITIGATE LONE WORKER RISK

by msecadm4921

One Housing Group is helping to mitigate potential risk to its lone working, front-line staff by contracting with Connexion2 for its awarding winning and ACPO ‘Secured by Design’ accredited Identicom lone worker device (LWD).   The Identicom LWD is providing the housing association’s Neighbourhood Officers, Income Officers and Allocation Officers with peace of mind knowing that should a conflict situation arise they have the means to discreetly raise the alarm in order to call for appropriate and timely assistance.

One Housing Group is a leading provider of affordable housing, care and support across London and the South East.  A not-for-profit organisation, it offers a wide range of housing including

homes for affordable rent, private sale and shared ownership as well as supported housing for residents with more complex needs.

The housing association has purchased the Identicom devices as part of SoloProtect, a fully managed service for lone workers delivering peace of mind to worker and employer alike. For an all-inclusive price, a SoloProtect solution encompasses the five core elements that are essential for a credible and complete lone worker solution. This includes the Identicom device, SIM Card and inclusive network usage, face-to-face user training, 24 hour manned monitoring and Connexion2’s dedicated customer support team at implementation stage and post sale.

“The safety of our staff is extremely important. Previously if a staff member hadn’t rung in to say they were safe, I had to call them to check on their whereabouts”, said Sue Needham, Head of Regional Housing Operation – West.  “Now I know that wherever they are there is someone always on hand who is monitoring their welfare”.

When a user is entering a new or potentially hazardous situation, they press  the ‘Amber Alert function’, this allows them to leave a quick 20-second voice message outlining whom and where they are, and what risks they are facing. This is sent from the device by text message and is only accessed by the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) should there be a ‘Red Alert’ subsequently actioned on the device. During such an alert, dedicated staff at the ARC can monitor all audio as the situation is happening and make an assessment as to the level of support required – involving the police if necessary.  In the event of a verbal confrontation, the centre records the conversation for future use as admissible evidence in court if needed.

“Identicom is great.  It is very easy to use and by combining it with lone worker training we are confident that we now have a very robust lone worker policy”, concluded Sue Needham.

As manufacturers of Identicom, Connexion2 supply solutions direct to market through the SoloProtect brand while supplying indirectly through a number of authorised partners. Connexion2 is fully approved against BS8484 through audit and as such all solutions through SoloProtect are guaranteed an escalation to Police level where appropriate.
