Cost resulting from lone worker risk in the USA is considerable with workplace violence costing around $121 billion per annum with an additional $16 million in lost wages according to figures released by NIOSH in 2011. Data provided by Bureau of Labor Statistics also suggest that 5% of private industry establishments experience at least one incident of workplace every year. In Canada there are similar trends with the Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics also stating that one in six crimes occurs in the workplace.
