AP Security Is Singin’ In The Rain At The IOW Festival

by msecadm4921

Despite weather conditions more suited to the monsoon season, the 2012 Isle of Wight Festival-goers were undaunted and proved to be another successful event. For the fifth successive year AP Security was providing safety and stewarding services for the festival’s campsites and, despite the conditions, played a key role in significantly reducing the festival’s crime rate yet again.

“The conditions were testing, but everything still went remarkably well. I think the old Dunkirk spirit kicked in,” smiles Chris Hollands, who headed AP’s team at the event.

Moving around the site took longer than usual, as vehicle traffic was suspended, but as it turned out, the challenges gave AP the opportunity to give their ‘worst case‘ plans a proper test – one which they passed with flying colours.

“Some of the Emergency Liaison Team meetings were very interesting, but it was the best table top exercise we could ever have as the scenarios we had to deal with were actually happening,” Chris continues.

“Despite the weather, we reduced the crime rate by 30%, which is something we are really proud of. Our working relationship with the police, all the partners and authorities at the festival has got stronger every year and this has been key in progressively reducing the crime figures year on year.

“Even without the torrential rain, the logistics of the Isle of Wight Festival are exacting. But it is always worth it – our staff enjoy the event and look forward to it every year. Some are already asking for the dates of next year, so they can make sure they’re free.”
