Physical security firm Guardian Security Group has launched Nogolok, a locking device to prevent the theft of backhoe loaders and articulated semi-trailers.
Guardian Security Group report that in spite of satellite tracking systems and immobilisers, thefts of diggers and trailers have continued to rise. Guardian say their product was designed at the request of the insurance industry and tested by the Thatcham Research Centre. There a range of hand tools was used in efforts to remove the product, attached to the legs of a backhoe loader and an articulated semi-trailer. Having failed to release any of them, the testers turned to a petrol-driven Stihl saw. Even cut in half, the locks would not yield. Finally, Guardian report, an oxyacetylene torch was used, but the locks could still not be released. At the end of the two and a half hour test, all the locks remained in place.
