Leisure Access

Access control at Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne, Lancashire, run by Pendle Leisure Trust.

Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne, Lancashire, is run by Pendle Leisure Trust. It includes a 25m swimming pool, health suite, sports hall, diner and licensed bar. Quammer Iqbal, lead operations manager at the centre says: ‘The leisure centre is used by more than 1,000 people daily and we were finding that facilities were being misused because we had no access control system governing who went where once inside. Historically users would pass through the turnstile and be issued with a plastic one day permit for using the gym or sauna area, but because staff were busy, they weren’t always collected, and as a result were re-used on subsequent visits.’ Briton COBRA digital locks from IR Security & Safety were installed. This programmable locking system with keypad can store up to 100 three to eight digit user codes at the keypad and allows administrators to add or delete users in seconds. The unit can be programmed to accept a number of code options including ‘one use’ codes which expire after initial use, and a ‘freeze-lockout’ code which will prevent other codes from working. The product was supplied through IR wholesaler, E Aldridge & Son and fitted by BB’s Locksmiths of Burnley. Quammer Iqbal adds: ‘Now we issue a different authorisation code each day to paying members and have found that it has dramatically reduced the misuse of the gym’s facilities in just eight weeks since installation.’
