Association of Security Consultants member Dr Henry O’Donnell from North West Donegal, has swum around Ireland.
The self-employed security consultant was expedition leader of the Round Ireland Swim Expedition, spending July and August on the Irish coastal waters.
Six swimmers (four male and two female), accompanied by a self-contained Marine Rescue Unit, circumnavigated the island of Ireland by swimming around its coastline, a first. The expedition was an idea of Henry’s in the early 1990s. After several other solo long distance swims and several years of planning, the team trained for a year and a half. The swim began from Carrickfinn Blue Flag Beach in North West Donegal, on July 2 and ended on August 25. The expedition has raised 23,000 euros for the RNLI to date.
